A charcuterie board can also be called a cheese board, but it is much more then that! Modern charcuterie is considered the art of arranging finger foods on a platter. Different foods that can be included are a variety of meats, cheeses, fruit, dried fruit, olives, pickles, crackers, nuts, bread, jams, dips, and spreads. The board or platter base is what you will find in our store. Pile one of our beautiful handmade boards full of delicious food and your guests will be delighted! Tell them the story behind your board and they will be entertained.

To visualize the difference between long grain and end grain, think of a tree standing tall. The long grain would be running up and down the length of the tree. The end grain is found 90 degrees to that, a cross-section of the tree.

Long grain has a lovely grain pattern with long lines within it. End grain has a unique grain pattern. End grain is much more durable than long grain, making it a great choice for cutting boards.

A live edge is where the outside edge or living edge of a tree is preserved and only the bark is removed. The result is a natural, rustic looking edge on the finished piece of furniture or charcuterie board.

Spalting is a natural process that causes unique colouration and patterns within the wood.  It is usually found in dead or stressed trees and is caused by fungi.  The fungi create the different lines and colours within the wood, making it unique, one of a kind, and a favourite of woodworkers!  But you don’t have to worry, the spalting process stops and the fungi dies when the wood is dried.  It is completely safe to use products made from dry wood with spalting, because all that is left is the colouration and patterns for you to enjoy!
